Family Time

“God sets the lonely in families…” Psalm 68:6

This is the time of the year generally thought of as “the most wonderful time of the year,” when life slows down for many and merriment is experienced by most.  While this may be the sentiment that many of us experience during this time, there are others who dread the holidays and experience an incredible sense of loneliness.   Those who are separated from or have recently lost loved ones can experience an intense loneliness that leads them to dark places.  Statistics indicate that there is an increase in substance abuse during this time of year and that while suicide attempts tend to drop off during the holidays, there is a 40 percent increase in suicide rates following Christmas.[1]

Fortunately, the Bible helps us to be aware that Satan is an opportunist constantly scheming to cause us to doubt our God and overlook His provisions for our lives.  As Christmas approaches, we should be reminded that God is concerned about our emotional and spiritual well-being and that His solution for loneliness is to place us in His “family.”  In fact, we learn of God’s design for the church in Ephesians 1:5 when it says “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Whether or not we experience loneliness during this time of year, we should all avoid the temptation to isolate ourselves.  As disciples of Jesus, we should be more committed to enjoying the fellowship of the saints and more active in reaching out to those around us as we are all in need of “family time.”                                       Pierre Saget

We invite you to attend one of our three regional worship locations this Sunday throughout the DFW metroplex, or a small group during the week by contacting one of our ministry leaders by email or contact the church office at 972.459.0080.
