NO MERIT IN MEDIOCRITY
Would you hire an unskilled contractor to build your home?
How about a novice mechanic to rebuild your car engine?
Would you want your appendix removed by a “surgeon” who had not been to medical school?
No! Then why is it surprising that God has the same (and often higher) standards in His house? Do we expect God to hold a lower standard for His workers, then we do ours?
Forgive me, but it seems to me that some believe that there is merit in mediocrity.
Mediocrity holds no virtue in the kingdom of God. The bible teaches God’s people to:
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15 ESV)
Approved for what? Approved to work in the service of the King!
In whatever field we work, with whatever gifts we are given, we should study, practice, and strive to be the best that we are able to be - to bring God the best offering that we have available to us.
When God instructed Moses to build the tabernacle, He told Moses exactly which people to choose to do the work. Please take note of God’s words:
“Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman… shall work in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded.” (Exodus 36:1 ESV)
“See I have chosen Bezalel… and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and craftsmanship…” (Exodus 31:1-4 ESV)
These were no run of the mill artists. They were the absolute best! And that is what God has brought to Dallas — the best! We, each one of us, has a purpose for being here in this place at this time. We are the skilled workers! We are God’s greatest worshippers! A big part of our worship is what we do with the skills God has given us to use for Him. Let your life song sing for Him!
