International Leadership Conference
The 2014 International Leadership Conference (ILC) hosted by the Singapore Church and the Southeast Asia (SEA) Region was the first world leadership event held in Asia in over twenty years. The theme for the conference was BUILD! All of the classes/lessons were centered on building our relationship with Him, building our lives on the solid rock of His Word, building our families and building our churches and ministries. The class titles were taken from the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai, and Zechariah, which are all about rebuilding the temple/Jerusalem after the exile. The conference began with an original musical “BUILD - Carpenters and Kings,” which was written and directed by Steve Johnson with an all Asian cast about the relationship between the young Jesus and his father Joseph.
The Singapore church, led by John and Karen Louis, was planted in 1988 and sent missions teams throughout Indonesia and Malaysia in the early 90’s. God’s church in this region now numbers 31 churches with over 4100 disciples! The SEA Region now includes Japan and most recently Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. It was exciting to see approximately 2700 disciples in attendance. In the past, due to travel costs, very few Indian and South East Asian brothers and sisters have been able to attend the conferences when they are held in the US. Many stories of present-day persecution were shared from our brothers and sisters in India, Africa, and the Middle East. Persecution becomes a reality as family members beat most would-be disciples daily as they begin to study the Bible.
The theme for the conference was also reflected in the story of Singapore as a nation. The island was given independence in 1965 and is only 35 miles wide by 20 miles long. The country was turned from a slum-filled area to a first-world nation in less than 50 years. It provided a great backdrop for what can be done in one generation.
The DFW Church is such an encouragement to our brothers and sisters around the world. Your example of love, generous hearts, and commitment to world evangelism is an inspiration. It is encouraging to see the unity, cooperation, and commitment to world evangelism from our 650 churches spanning the globe. Let’s all continue to let our lights shine and spread the good news of Christ to a lost world.
